Medtronic powers up in NSW’s second largest economy

Medtronic marked a significant milestone this week with the official inauguration of its new Sydney headquarters in Macquarie Park on Monday 18 August.
Guest of honour Jerome Laxale MP, Member for Bennelong, emphasised the strategic importance of the location. Macquarie Park, he noted, is the second largest economy in NSW and the eighth largest in Australia. This is supported by its substantial annual economic output, which surpasses $13.6 billion.
“Being here to celebrate the opening of Medtronic Sydney’s new headquarters highlights the important role medical technology plays in supporting our healthcare system and communities,” he said.
Mr Laxale commended the company’s dedication to educating healthcare professionals and widening access to cutting-edge health technologies across the country.
“Medtronic wants the sector to thrive across the board and for patients to have earlier access to new technologies, which will benefit the entire industry and patients,” he commented.
The new facility will serve as a dynamic hub, offering customers access to state-of-the-art training environments for the latest medical technologies, while employees benefit from open, collaborative workspaces designed to spark creativity, promote teamwork and drive healthcare innovation.
“Our new Sydney headquarters is a true reflection of our purpose in action – a place designed to inspire innovation, accelerate the delivery of healthcare technologies, and ultimately improve patient care. By uniting advanced technology, education, and collaboration under one roof, we are strengthening Medtronic’s long-standing mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life for Australians,” said Liz Carnabuci, Managing Director of Medtronic ANZ.
Medtronic first established its Australian operations in 1973 with just four employees in Rosebery, and has since grown to a 950-strong workforce across Australia and New Zealand. Over that time, it has delivered more than 40,000 life-changing medical devices to patients, with a growing focus in miniaturisation, AI, robotics and minimally invasive therapies.
